Powering What’s Next
Innovation in the North starts with connection — between people, technology, and opportunity. We’re exploring new solutions and building lasting partnerships to benefit our people and the planet.
Facing the Future
Cleaner energy, smarter systems, stronger partnerships: this is what "Powering the North" looks like in action. Community-driven and future-focused, it is built to last.
Our Innovation Action Plan
Indigenous Partnerships
Working Together for a Stronger North
True innovation starts with respect and long-term collaboration.
NTPC is proud to share knowledge and technical expertise to help Indigenous governments and organizations develop workable energy solutions that reflect local priorities. Here's how we're working together:
Joint development of renewable energy projects, including community solar and future hydro
Training, service delivery, and investment agreements that create local jobs and skills
Ownership opportunities through Power Purchase Agreements and shared infrastructure
Our partners include the Tłı̨chǫ Government, Nihtat Energy Ltd., and the Gwich’in Development Corporation. We’re committed to building new and stronger relationships with additional Indigenous governments and organizations.
New Technologies for Northern Needs
The North demands energy solutions that are tough, smart, and sustainable. NTPC is adopting proven technologies that meet those needs, including:
Battery storage systems to smooth renewable supply in remote communities
Wind power that works in Arctic conditions, like the new turbine in Inuvik
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a cleaner fuel in places like Inuvik and Fort Simpson
Exploration of emerging options like small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) and hydrogen
Powering Industry with Clean Energy
Power supply is a key enabler as the North prepares for a new generation of mines and industrial development. NTPC and NT Energy are working with industrial partners to:
Deliver clean, affordable energy to mines
Expand transmission infrastructure to reduce diesel use and connect new sites
Partner with Indigenous governments to share the benefits of new energy development
Support economic growth in the territory through thoughtful energy planning
